Cover Your Tata’s And Act Like A Lady!

The Outfit that was deemed innapropriate

I just read an interesting article on Ninemsn about a woman who was told by crew of the Southwest Airlines to cover up before boarding her flight to Las Vegas to New York, and I may be pushing the Feminist movement back a few years by saying that I for one agree with Southwest Airlines in this. But in my defence, this post isn’t about trolling her choice of outfit, but rather offer an alternative to any woman out there who flies on a regular basis.  The woman, known as Avital told Jezebel that the attire she was wearing was “innapropriate” and that she should button up her shirt before boarding her flight.

Avital told Jezebel  “To add insult to injury, the guy sitting in front of me on the plane was wearing a shirt with an actual Trojan condom embedded behind a clear plastic applique and had no trouble getting on his flight,” Avital added. “Slut shaming, pure and simple.”

Being an expat, I’ve had a few long flights. Las Vegas to New York, is a four hour flight, which hardly qualifies as a long flight. But in Avital’s defence, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the Southwest Airline’s rules as to what is deemed appropriate attire. But if there was a guy sitting in front of her who was wearing a condom on his shirt, does that also qualify? It should, but it didn’t. In any case, doesn’t a girl want to look and feel her best in any occasion?

I am Mary Poppins on a flight! I make sure I have makeup wipes, hand sanitizer, a moisturizing lotion for face and parts of my body, a toothbrush and even some listerine strips, hair ties and a hair serum just in case of fly aways. I mean, I’m flying my hair shouldn’t be!

I believe in a good pashmina shawl, a light cardigan, ballet flats, and huge sunglasses, because who wants to look all eyes blood shot and half crazy when they get off a flight from Hong Kong to Tel Aviv, only to be questioned at length by Israeli security (speaking from personal experience, lesson learned!) but this wasn’t because of my fashion choice, but my suspect last name. Married now, crisis avoided. I know it didn’t happen again when I was flying back into Tel Aviv, from Seoul because I had actually been pulled aside prior to my flight, and was given an upgrade. I’ve since realised that nicely dressed people get upgrades on flights, and have kept it in my mind to do it again on a long flight.

You be the judge of yourself in Avital’s fashion choice, I’ve said my piece. If you want, leave a comment, I’m about to grab some lunch, and look at where to go for the end of the year. Happy travels!

An Explanation

I feel like I’ve been given a new skin, and that’s a bit of an understatement.  For the past week or so, I’ve been a bit distracted and for that I apologize to everyone whose been so supportive with keeping me on the loop in Twitter, and Facebook.

I went away for a day trip at the Dead Sea, to the Hod HaMidbar resort with my Husband’s family, and we had a great day just relaxing, and getting spoilt.  I wanted to get a fish pedicure since I’d first heard of it, and I have to tell you it wasn’t as bad as I expected and the result was just as good as a regular pedicure – without the wincing and ugliness of those emory board things they use.

The sea itself was in my opinion the highlight of my day.  The warm water did absolute wonders for my skin, I love my moisturiser, and I’ve barely used it just out of habit, but it’s been in the best shape it’s been in for a long time.  We will be going back next time for the massages and mud body scrubs which I’m really excited about, but the following are some pictures from our trip.  I didn’t take any for an OOTD, because I had too much fun 😀

A Basic Wardrobe

I’ve been giving my clothes and wardrobe a do-over for the past 6 months.  I have come under the resignation that things of quality, must take time.  I have given myself rules, because I for one need rules when it comes to shopping, or else I’ll just buy what ever is on sale, or seems like a good idea at the time.  I took a cue from the Tim Gunn basic ten, and expanded it, with detail so here is the list as follows.

  • Bags:

Comes under four catergories, or Satchels, Totes, Clutches, and Straw bags.

  • Blazers

This can be furtherSummer, or Winter, Lined, or 3/4.  I love to team blazers with jeans, and a pair of flats.

  • Pants

The pants become tricky, you need to find a pair that fit you.  I have big thighs and a huge butt, so I like the wide leg, and the tuxedo style for dressing up.  When you find a pair you love, make sure they have them in colours you can work.

  • The Classic White Shirt

These can be buttoned, easy plain t shirt, and a three quarter sleeve.  The possibilities are endless with white shirts, just make sure they stay white, and aren’t washed with any other colour!

  • Skirts

I wrote down, black skirts, which can be pencil fit, an A Line fit, again because I have big thighs I like the full skirt, cut at knee length, you can also do tweed ones for the winter, or bright coloured for the Summer.  I believe to be careful though with patterns on your skirts, because they can date.

  • Jeans

These are again find what you can fit to your body shape.  The ones that are one colour, are better, try to not got for those ones with fading on the butt or on the thighs, because it can make you look bigger

  • Trench Coat

A really good trench coat is an investment because you really can get a lot of wears out of one.  You can wear it anywhere, and it wouldn’t look out of place at the Grocery store, or at an Opera.

  • The Little Black Dress

Now here we can’t go wrong, ladies.  You can dress a good black dress up with accessories, or dress it down with a cardigan, or even with your buttoned shirt tied up in front.  With a black dress, the possibilities are endless.

  • A Day Dress

This is something you can put on with sandals, flats, or heels to go to the shops, or to work, but this isn’t a dress that you can wear to a cocktail party!

  • Cashmere Sweater

Cashmere feels so good on your skin, but the thing about cashmere is that it doesn’t pill so you’d be able to get a lot of warm cozy wears out of your cashmere sweaters.

  • Sunglasses

Now this is instead of a sweatsuit alternative, because I love Sunglasses, I have had my eye on a pair of Nina Ricci Jackie O Square pair forever!  Sunglasses are the ultimate in chic, and if you can get a wonderful pair of sunglasses that suit your face shape, then everything falls into place.

* For Accessories and extras, I also included, a belt, scarves, a big statement necklace, and cocktail rings.

This post is bought to you by the colour black and the letter S
